Eliot, he is the only writer in history to have been awarded four Pulitzer Prizes. In iconic poems like 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening', simple images summon the rural landscape of New England, and Frost unfailingly moves the reader with his profound grasp of the human condition.

First full collection of the work of one of Australia's most prominent 20th century poets.

Since the publication of her first book in 1944, Rosemary Dobson has built a reputation as one of Australia's most important poets. This volume collects and celebrates the work of her long and distinguished career, bringing together a vast and striking body of work. The poetry ranges from the exquisitely lyrical, with its clarity of observation, to delicious wit and playfulness. Ground-breaking poems about domestic lives, especially motherhood, have influenced many younger poets, while translations and poetry about the visual arts are equally distinctive.

Dobson herself has spoken of her poetry as 'part of a search for something only fugitively glimpsed, a state of grace which one once knew, or imagined, or from which one was turned away. Surely everyone who writes poetry would agree this is part of it - a doomed but urgent wish to express the inexpressible.' Now in her nineties, Rosemary is still producing new work and having it published.

It was as a poet that Samuel Beckett launched himself in the little reviews of 1930s Paris, and as a poet that he ended his career.

The Collected Poems is the most complete edition of Beckett's poetry and verse translations ever to be published, as well as the first critical edition. It establishes a significant new canon, and the commentary draws on a wide range of published sources, manuscripts and Beckett's extensive correspondence.

The notes place each poem in context, detailing the history and circumstances of its composition; they indicate significant variants and help explain obscure turns of phrase and allusions (frequently sourced to Beckett's notebooks); they also identify resonances between poems and across Beckett's work as a whole.

The commentary is written in a lively and engaging style and is intended equally for the general reader, the student of modernism and the Beckett specialist.

Clive James's reputation as a poet has become impossible to ignore. His recent poems looking back over his extraordinarily rich life with a clear-eyed and unflinching honesty, such as 'Japanese Maple' (first published in the New Yorker in 2014), became global news events upon their publication. His most recent collection, Sentenced to Life, was a phenomenal bestseller in the UK and in Australia, and his translation of Dante's The Divine Comedy was a Sunday Times top ten bestseller in 2013.

In this book, James makes his own rich selection from over fifty years' work in verse: from his early satires to these heart-stopping valedictory poems, he proves himself to be as well suited to the intense demands of the tight lyric as he is to the longer mock-epic. Collected Poems displays James's fluency and apparently effortless style, his technical skill and thematic scope, his lightly worn erudition and his emotional power; it will undoubtedly cement his reputation as one of the most versatile and accomplished of contemporary writers.

Francis Webb (19251973) grew up in North Sydney with his paternal grandparents, who encouraged his love of music, books and the sea. In 1942, during his final year of secondary school, his writing first appeared in the Bulletin, which led to friendships with Douglas Stewart, Nan McDonald, Rosemary Dobson and Norman Lindsay, who illustrated his debut collection A Drum for Ben Boyd. In 1943 he joined the Air Force, completing his training as a Wireless Air Gunner in Canada in late 1944. After a sea voyage from Canada to England in 1949, he suffered the first of a series of breakdowns which increasingly restricted his life but not his prodigious poetic gifts.

No one book has done more to define modern poetry than T. S. Eliot's Collected Poems 1909-1962. The pinnacle of a lifetime's curation by Eliot himself, it was first published in 1936, and then revised to form the present edition of the text, published in 1963. But throughout its many printings, discrepancies, authorial revisions and printers' errors have introduced anomalies that have served to undermine the authority of the edition. Now, following years of careful scholarship and preparation for The Poems of T. S. Eliot by Christopher Ricks and Jim McCue, a reliable text has been established that enables a corrected and newly reset edition of Eliot's Collected Poems to be presented for the very first time.

Adrienne Rich was the singular voice of her generation and one of our most important American poets. She brought discussions of gender, race, and class to the forefront of poetical discourse, pushing formal boundaries and consistently examining both self and society.

This collected volume traces the evolution of her poetry, from her earliest work, which was formally exact and decorous, to her later work, which became increasingly radical in both its free-verse form and feminist and political content. The entire body of her poetry is on display in this vast volume, including the National Book Award–winning Diving Into the Wreck and her prize-winning Atlas of the Difficult World.

The Collected Poems of Adrienne Rich gathers and memorializes all of her boldly political, formally ambitious, thoughtful, and lucid work, the whole of which makes her one of the most prolific and influential poets of our time.

A groundbreaking new edition of Dylan Thomas's collected poetry, published to commemorate the centenary of the poet's birth.

Like Shakespeare and Joyce before him, Dylan Thomas expanded our sense of what the English language can do.

Rhythmically forceful yet subtly musical and full of memorable lines, his poems are anthology favourites; his 'play for voices' Under Milk Wood a modern classic. Much-loved by The Beatles and Bob Dylan, he is a cultural icon and continues to inspire artists today.

This new edition, released to commemorate the centenary of Thomas's birth, collects all of his poems together for the first time in a single volume. With recently discovered material and accessible critique from Dylan Thomas expert John Goodby, it looks at Thomas's body of work in a fresh light, taking us to the beating heart of his poetry.

Zwicky is one of the world’s finest poets; her sophistications of form and theme remind one of Akhmatova, Szymborska, Adrienne Rich and William Blake. With poise and control, she tracks the personal encounter with the weight of history and the obligation to declare a position. - JOHN KINSELLA

In her poetry, Zwicky, the ex-concert pianist, technically adroit, dramatic and profoundly serious, is there alongside the joker, the edgy ironist making wry asides against the world, patriarchy and herself. Her formal poems sit easily beside her mostly short-lined, tightly wrought free verse. Her cadences are a delight. - KATHERINE GALLAGHER

Zwicky’s poems deal with such over-whelming intimations of mortality—and much more than intimations—while striving for and attaining a breathtaking authority and stubborn subjectivity of voice. - LYN MCCREDDEN

She has her eye on all creation. - GEOFFREY DUTTON

Edited with an Introduction, Chronology, Notes, Bibliography and Glossary by Roy Booth, Royal Holloway College, University of London.

John Donne (1572-1631) is a poet of concerted emotional and intellectual force, whose strenuously original approach to the subject matter, diction and form of verse re-made English poetry. Donne's poetry combines paradoxical wit, scientific and theological learning with the rhythms and diction of spoken language. Crises of love, conscience, and faith are the great concerns of his poetry which is by turns exalted or disenchanted, direct or oblique, morally profound or outrageously spiteful.

This edition makes available the whole of Donne’s English poetry, and includes a new introduction, chronology, notes and up-to-date bibliography.
